Brompton Ralph beat Doctors by 40 runs Result:
Lost by about 40 runs (adjusted D/L method) Our hosts won the toss and elected to
bat. Their youthful side, initially
held back by a fine opening spell by Will Bere who bowled 3 of their best for
about 20 runs in his 4 overs, and tidy spells from Charles Macadam, Imogen
Venner and Jeremy Budd, were soon smashing the ball past and over our
fielders on the very hard sloping outfield, and in no time at all had amassed
about 175 runs for the loss of 9 of their wickets. The only hold-up to their
progress was a sudden and severe shower of rain which felt like the first of
the Summer and fair drenched us as we scampered for the Pavilion. In reply Keith Powell settled into smiting
a few well chosen boundaries and singles and retired on 25. At the other end Rob Adcock was our only
wicket to fall, alas bowled by Mullins for 3. This heralded the arrival of
Chris Cullum who hit a classic and rapid 26 * finishing with a fine 6 into
the field behind midwicket. Skipper for the day John Ogle, after a few
sighters, started to find the boundary and reached 26*, partnering initially
Powell and then his son Hugh Ogle. Their attempts and also those of Matt Bere
to keep up the required rate of about 10 an over were alas not quite
sufficient. Unaccountably their umpire
called time with only 17 of our 18 overs gone, and with Ogle junior not out 9
and Bere having smote a 6 and five 4’s on his way to a fine 32 we had reached
a creditable 127 - 1. |
