Burnham lost to Doctors by 19 runs

Doctors           156 for 5

Burnham         137 for 4

Doctors’ veteran openers John Ogle and Keith Powell (16) began circumspectly against a young and keen Burnham midweek XI.  The partnership was blossoming when Powell’s flowing square drive for 4 was followed by a less-pleasing swipe to D.Coles at mid off from the bowling of E.Tasker (2-19).  The same bowler accounted for Phil Barker when D.Aston plucked the ball out of the air.  Ogle and Graham Fergusson stroked the ball around in a lordly stand for the second wicket which ended when Fergusson (17) holed out to Aston off M.Connick (1-26) and Ogle (31n.o.) retired.  Richard Budd’s two ball innings comprised a huge six and an lbw decision in favour of Aston (1-42) but the Harry Lee (32 n.o.) and Matt House (29 n.o.) came together in a scintillating stand which took full advantage of the relatively short boundaries and pushed the total up to a challenging 156.

Julian Stearnes (33 n.o.)  and P.Harris (30 n.o.) replied in like fashion for Burnham with a quickfire opening partnership of 62. When both batsmen retired there was a mini-collapse at the hands of Peter Reed (2-28) and Will Chandler (1-18) thanks to two stumpings and a catch by keeper Fergusson.  Aston and C.Kennelly upped the scoring rate again until Kennelly fell to Barker (1-18) but despite valiant efforts from Aston (31 n.o.) and Tasker (11 n.o.) the target was just too steep.
