Doctors lost to Burnham by 10 runs

Burnham         100 for 7

Doctors             90 all out

Phil Barker (2-16) continued his excellent early season form with two early wickets, one thanks to a fine diving catch by keeper Charles Macadam. A.Smith (32 n.o.) and J.Harding (26 retired) put together a good partnership for the third wicket and J.Birkett (12) contributed a useful cameo but the rest of the innings was dominated by Tom Adcock (2-3) whose two wickets were complemented by an excellent ground fielding performance which included three run outs.  Andrew Jeanes supported him well with an economical spell and Tom Adams held a good catch at square leg.

Doctors’ pursuit of a modest target began promisingly as John Ogle unfurled an array of handsome shots. Sadly most of them went straight to a fielder, including the catch to mid on off J.Birkett which dismissed him.  The match was effectively lost in a kamikaze period where Doctors gifted two further wickets to Birkett and Rob Adcock threw away his wicket attempting a suicidal run that found him at the same end as Jeanes.  When Jeanes (14) skied Birkett (3-16) to Andy Birkett at long off Doctors were 20 for 4.  Sam Powell played a superb captain’s innings which threatened to pull off an unlikely win but the Burnham bowlers kept chipping away at the other end.  Wickets for C.Evans (2-11), Andy Birkett (1-7) and P.Harris (1-26) meant that Powell (49 n.o.) was left stranded with 8 balls left and the target tantalisingly out of reach.
