Doctors beat Butterworth Jones by 10 wickets

Butterworth Jones         75 all out

Doctors                        79 for 0

The accountants chose first use of an excellent batting strip at Cannington College but never really got going against Doctors remorseless attack of Mike Smart and Joe Lee.  Smart (1-15) made the breakthrough when D.Edworthy miscued to Peter Reed at mid off and then D.Marsh was brilliantly run out by Alan Dunkley who swooped from extra cover and hit the one stump that he could see.  When Lee (1-16) bowled A.Edworthy for 12 the visitors had limped to 32 for 3 off 9 overs and Peter Warren and Nigel Gamblen had to rebuild.  Sam Powell and Mike Sullivan maintained the pressure but the batsmen had taken the score on to 50 and were looking to accelerate when Gamblen (10) was bowled by Reed.  Sullivan (1-29) accounted for S.Edworthy and this triggered a dreadful collapse as the Butterworth batsmen had no answer to the lavish outswing obtained by Reed who took 5 for 11, four of whom were clean bowled.

The Butterworth’s bowlers knew they would be hard pressed to defend such a small total but Gamblen and Bill Annis set to with a will and were well supported by M.Warren and Howard Pearson.  However Dunkley and John Ogle are both in prime form and, with no pressure on them, gave a master class in driving and cutting.  Ogle’s square drive off Gamblen was the shot of the day as doctors cruised home with more than 5 overs to spare.  Ogle was unbeaten on 39 and Dunkley on 33, neither batsman having given a chance.
