Doctors beat Butterworth Jones by 7 wickets

Butterworths     104 all out

Doctors            105 for 3

Butterworth’s innings almost died at birth as Steve Witts (2-1) dismissed their best batsman David Edworthy for 2 and he and Wayne Pither (1-3) beat the bat time and again.  When Ashley Knowles (1-17) took a caught and bowled chance off his first ball the visitors top order had crumbled to 9 for 4.   Some of the damage was repaired by an excellent partnership of 46 between Blackwell and Phillips which was ended when Blackwell (30) was very well caught by Andrew Paisley at deep square leg off Jeremy Budd (1-31).  Keith Powell then effected a good run out which left Phillips and Phil Barker to mount a rearguard action.  Phillips (24) was bowled by Robert Seymour and Barker’s inventive innings of 20 was ended in identical fashion.  The tail had no answer to the wiles of Seymour (4-19) and the innings subsided tamely.

An early finish seemed inevitable when Powell (19) and John Ogle (12) put on 50 for the first wicket in just 7 overs with a mixture of hard hitting and challenging running.  Both had survived run out scares when they fell in quick succession to Butterworths best bowler Phil Greenway (2-18).   Paisley came in and took immediate control with a succession of aerial leg side shots.   Rob Adcock leant solid support and the end was almost nigh when Paisley (35) was lbw to D.Marsh (1-17).  Adcock (12 n.o.) and Witts (7 n.o.) finished the job with two overs to spare.
