Environment Agency lost to Doctors by 50 runs

Doctors                             150 for 7

Environment Agency        100 all out

Doctors’ first game of the season was before Easter, the first time that this has happened.  Fielding a side with an average age of over 50 Doctors lost an early wicket to Hardy but then made sprightly progress as Phil Barker and Graham Fergusson took advantage of the short square boundaries and some occasionally wayward bowling.  Barker (18) was lbw to a ball from Hardy (2-23) which kept low and there was a brief hiatus when Fergusson (30 n.o.) retired and E.Barnes (1-26) took another wicket.  Harry Lee’s high tempo 31 (retired) regained the initiative and a frenetic innings from Sam Powell, with able support from Nick Smyth, kept things moving.  Smyth (12) was caught off the bowling of Ian Symonds (1-14) and Powell (24), having hit the shot of the match a huge straight six, was run out.  A classy cameo of 14 not out by John Ogle ensured a challenging total despite two late wickets from C.Matthews (1-10) and Gardner (1-11).

R.Shillito suffered the misfortune of being yorked by the first ball of the Agency innings, bowled by Powell.  Another quick wicket for the same bowler had the home team in trouble but Richard Symonds led a spirited comeback and the Agency side were never far from the required run rate. Two wickets for Peter Reed and the dismissal of Symonds at the end of an excellent spell by Barker slowed the impetus but with 6 overs to go the game was still in the balance.  Fergusson changed that with a devastating spell of 3 wickets in 4 balls and the match was finished by two dismissals by Lee in what would have been the penultimate over.
