Doctors beat Goathurst by 67 runs

Doctors            161 for 4

Goathurst         94 all out

Goathurst won the toss and decided to bowl but it was something of a shock when an assured start by Andrew Dodden (13) was interrupted by an excellent off cutter from Rob Hardwick which bowled him through a languid drive.  Will Chandler, playing his first game of the season, looked as though he had never been away and caressed his way to a rapid 30 before retiring and Rob Adcock took the opposite approach and battered anything short or wide until he too retired on 32.  Graham Fergusson fell victim to a truly remarkable one-handed, running catch by Paddy MacLennan at long on off the bowling of R.Swait (1-50) but Harry Lee (31 n.o.) and Sam Kenwood (21) kept up the flow of boundaries until Kenwood was caught by keeper J.Griffiths off the returning Hardwick (2-21).  There was just time for a brief innings of 10 from skipper Phil Barker which was terminated by a change-of-mind shot that resulted in a caught and bowled dismissal by MacLennan (1-16).

Griffiths fell lbw to the fourth ball of Goathurst’s innings, bowled by Peter Reed (1-26) but the home team had to wait for further success as John Hardwick (23) and Angus McDonagh (13) played shots with some freedom.  Doug Johnson (2-13) ended the fun by bowling both batsmen in quick succession and the rest of the innings was built around an excellent knock from Rob Hardwick as wickets fell regularly at the other end.  Ralph Hammond (3-15) took his first wicket for Doctors and then quickly followed it with two more and it took just two balls from Barker (2-0) to finish the match, both wickets, including Hardwick for 28, falling to identical stumpings by keeper Lee.
