Hereford Doctors lost to Doctors by 6 wickets Hereford Doctors 101 for 7 Doctors 104 for 4 Hereford Doctors got off to a flier and put on 21 in the first 4 overs but were pegged back by a fine spell of 1 for 8 from John Down. His good work was maintained by brothers Joe Lee (2-31) and Harry Lee (2-9), and only opener W.Davies was able to make any impression. Wickets fell regularly at the other end as the Lees worked their way through the middle order until A.Knight at last provided some support to Davies. Their stand was worth 22 when the pressure to accelerate brought their downfall. Knight (10) was well caught as Joe Lee made a lot of ground to hold him off Phil Barker (1-9) and Davies (39), trying to keep the strike, failed to complete a suicidal single to Andrew Paisley. Peter Reed and Barker permitted no liberties from the lower order and the final total was some 20 runs below par. A fine opening stand of 59 between Paisley and Dave Rooke virtually sealed the outcome of the match as they saw off the opening bowlers at 5 an over with a minimum of risk. The stand came to an undignified end as both were bowled, head in the air, attempting a big drive, Paisley (18) by Chris Frith (1-17) and Rooke (21) by Noor (1-26). John Rooke smashed his first ball of the season for a sumptuous four but there was a mid-innings wobble as D.Sykes (2-15) took two quick wickets. By now Graham Fergusson was in full flow and a quickfire burst of 6 boundaries took the game away from the home side. The end came quickly with a beautiful straight drive over the bowler’s head which took Fergusson to 30 not out and to a season’s average of 224.
