Hereford Doctors lost to Bridgwater Doctors by 13 runs

Bridgwater Doctors      114 for 8

Hereford Doctors         101 for 8

The tourists were put in to bat on a sporting pitch and lost a wicket in the first over from the lively Manu Lal (1-17).  The innings was stabilised by a sound partnership of 56 between Andrew Paisley and David Williamson who ran well and played useful shots behind the wicket on both sides.  The slow outfield meant that the match was doomed to be low scoring and when Williamson was caught of R.Sykes (1-13) the visitors were grateful for brisk cameos from Mike Sullivan and Dave Rooke that lifted the run rate.  The looping medium pacers of Chris Frith (4-37) were difficult to get away and he accounted for Sullivan (12) with a reflex return catch and Rooke (10) and the excellent Paisley (39) both bowled.  The innings subsided gently when Sam Powell was controversially given out caught off when appeared to be a beamer from Jibu Vargese (1-22) and the same player effected a good run out in the next over.

The fired-up Powell was more than a handful for Hereford’s openers who were both soon back in the pavilion courtesy of good catches from the bowler’s father Keith.  Sullivan made an even more important breakthrough when he trapped the home team’s main man Peter Richards lbw for 0 during a hypnotic spell of 2 for 8, and when Powell bowled Lal with a beauty that nipped back the score was 29 for 5 and the match was effectively finished.  More constriction from John Down, Phil Barker (1-13) and Peter Reed (1-23) with aid from two good stumpings from keeper Jeremy Budd made sure of the win and when Doctors relaxed in the last 4 overs Vargese (16 n.o.) and A.Rajiv (22) swung the bat to give their team respectability.
