Captain’s commendations
We have played very well as a team this year and I
cannot think of anyone who has not made a valuable contribution at some
stage. In particular I would like to
mention:
Will Chandler Batting average 107. Career average 59. If only he could manage more than 3 games
a season!
John Ogle Consistent opener. Regular player. Batted sublimely at times this year.
James Murdoch Obvious class. Most promising newcomer. Fielding an asset. Top of the bowling
averages!
Phil Barker Ace finisher. Turns in valuable performances every
time. Played at least 3 match
winning innings.
Sam Powell Explosive batsman. Guaranteed to increase the scoring
rate. Played at least two match
winning innings. Will be really
devastating if he learns that even he has to defend occasionally. Stalwart of the bowling attack. More than useful fielder. Will be sorely missed next year while he
is at University.
Graham Fergusson Averaged over 100 for most of the season
until the last match. Scored over
twice as many runs as anyone else.
Expert keeper. Valuable
bowler. Won numerous games. Bats better in the dark!
John Down Mr Reliable. Always at the sharp end. Almost all of his wickets are top order
batsmen. Never lets his captain
down. Even if doesn’t get wickets
always puts pressure on the batsmen because they can’t score off him.

Illustrated by my favourite game of the season v Pencombe on tour. We batted abysmally (76 all out) and
Sully (2-9 off 8 overs) and JD (4-9 off 8) were
almost unplayable as we almost won.
Other highlights: David Williamson’s electric (and so
disappointing) 99 v Solicitors (Has left himself something to do next
season).
Andrew Paisley’s
majestic and so well judged 61 v Bristol Doctors.
Jeremy Budd’s
superb spell of off spin (3-5) at a crucial stage v T.Deane.
Fielding: Harry Lee has been outstanding in the covers and his run out of
Steve Dickens v Stags was my favourite piece of action this year
Alan Dunkley’s run out v
Butterworth Jones was of equal standard.
Oliver Budd’s two superb diving
catches v Bristol Doctors.
Wicketkeeping
has been of a high standard Dave Rooke catch v Unison
Graham Fergusson stumping v Bristol
Doctors
Jeremy Budd legside stumping v
Goathurst
Finally I would like to say how good it has been to have
the younger players in the side this year.
In the match v Stags we had 7 players under the age of 20 (even with
their elderly captain in the team the average age must have been a record
low) and the fielding and running between the wickets was outstanding.
