Over Stowey beat Doctors by 8 runs Over
Stowey 103 all out
Doctors 95
for 7
Jack Rich (14) set off like an express
train but was sent back to the pavilion by a superb, left handed, running
catch by Sam Powell at deep midwicket off Robert Seymour. Powell with three wickets, all clean
bowled, then combined with Seymour to stifle the Over Stowey top order and an
excellent run out by Hugh Ogle reduced the home team to 36 for 5. A good catch at mid-on by Connor Keohane
gave Doctors’ leading wicket taker Phil Barker yet another victim but
D.Butson and C.Woodley formed a spirited partnership which gave their bowlers
a target to defend. Butson retired on
27 and Woodley (20) was lbw attempting a slog sweep to Peter Reed and the end
of the innings followed swiftly. Good
pressure from bowler Will Ogle led to a run out thanks to a good throw from
John Ogle at third man; Seymour at mid-off took a sharp catch off Keohane’s
bowling and the action was concluded by an alert piece of cricket by keeper
Charles Macadam who scampered down the pitch to retrieve the ball and threw
down the striker’s wicket. Doctor’s reply
began in the hands of John and Hugh Ogle who put their team into a
comfortable position. John Ogle’s 25
(retired) was graced by five driven boundaries, all pleasing on the eye. Hugh Ogle settled into an anchor role, much
needed when Woodley (1-6) and N.Nation (1-3) took two quick wickets and dried
up the runs. Powell restored Doctors’
momentum with a six and two fours but the game changed when Rich was
introduced into the attack and bowled Powell (17). Hugh Ogle had to retire, unbeaten, for a
good 25, and Rich (3-16) and Matt Mackenzie (1-10) applied a stranglehold
that Doctors’ middle order could not break and which saw their team to a
narrow win. |
