Doctors lost to Taunton School Staff by 18 runs

School             134 for 3

Doctors           116 for 9

The School Staff lost two early wickets when Mike Cook clipped Sam Powell to Richard Budd at midwicket and Cyril Kelly was athletically run out by Oliver Budd.  Powell (1-10) and John Bishop bowled a tight line and were backed up by good ground fielding and when Powell held a top edge from Chris Davenport off Bishop (1-19) the score was 30 for 3 off 8 overs.  Dave Tarr had been unusually circumspect but now opened up against the change bowlers and when he retired on 33 the stage was set for R.Martin and Simon Hogg to go onto the offensive.  Oliver Budd demanded respect and Hogg (12) was lbw to Phil Barker (1-36) but Doctors’ catching suddenly becoming fallible and Luke Waller (30 n.o.) and Martin (32 n.o.) blasted a flurry of fours and sixes which boosted the total to a challenging one.

Doctors’ reply began horribly as Waller (2-11) and Jimmy Beale (1-13) dismissed the top three and Steve Tribe, on his debut for Doctors, was run out without facing a ball.  Bishop played immaculately, coming down the wicket to nullify the slowness of the track and striking the ball to all parts.  Hogg came into the attack and Andrew Paisley (23), having played some fine shots on both sides of the wicket, holed out to deep mid on.  This allowed Hogg (4-23) to cut through the lower order and by the time Dave Rooke (19 n.o.) and Bishop (40 n.o.) came together there were not enough overs left to get near the target.
