Taunton School Staff lost to Doctors by 15 runs

Doctors                       133 for 5

Taunton School           118 for 6

John Bishop (18) got Doctors off to a flier but succumbed to over-confidence when he advanced down the wicket to the redoubtable Jimmy Beale and played round a straight ball.  Beale (2-16) then defeated Harry Lee with a slower ball but Richard Budd joined Tom Eve in an attack-minded partnership.  Budd (12) was bowled by Luke Waller (1-18) and Sam Powell was lbw to Roberts (1-23) but Eve (33 n.o.) mixed watchful defence with thoroughbred driving and found a soul mate in John Ogle (30 n.o.).  Their rattling stand gave the innings impetus at just the right time although both had to retire just before the end, leaving time for Simon Hogg (1-5) to collect his customary late wicket.

S.Bailey and J.Newton set off in hot pursuit and after 3 overs the score was 31 for 0.  Newton (18) peppered the midwicket boundary but tried one aerial shot too many and found the safe hands of Lee off the bowling of Peter Reed (1-27).  When Bailey’s beautifully constructed innings of 33 ended with retirement and Barker (1-28) bowled K.Moore the innings entered the doldrums as he, Lee, Reed and Bishop took turns to becalm the scoring rate.  Bishop (2-15) capped his fine spell with the wicket of Cyril Kelly (14) and with the asking rate rising to 8 and then 10 an over in fading light Powell (2-20) was never going to concede the initiative. Hogg (12 n.o.) and A.Hallows (11 n.o.) played with spirit but never got close to their target.
