Doctors lost to Taunton School Staff by 9 wickets

Doctors                        86 for 7

Taunton School            87 for 1

Doctors’ opening match of the 2005 season against a predictably strong Taunton School Staff side proved to be a carbon copy of the corresponding fixture last year with the home team struggling to an inadequate total and the visitors achieving their target without trouble.

Richard Gower began Doctors’ innings at express pace until he smashed a wide half volley from former minor counties bowler S.Beale (2-6) straight to Simon Hogg at cover.  Beale’s pace and swing was a real handful for all of the batsmen with the exception of Will Chandler and with good support bowling from off spinners Luke Waller (1-14) and M.Cook (2-22) Doctors never got going.  Chandler (33) looked absolutely secure but had no support at the other end until Steve Witts (15) played aggressively at the end.  Both batsmen fell attempting big shots off Cook and the innings subsided tamely.

Gower bowled fast and accurately but without reward and Doctors’ solitary bowling success came when Tolland chipped Peter Reed (1-16) to Nick Bray at mid on.  Mason (30 n.o.) and Kelly (25 n.o.) were thereafter untroubled and victory was achieved with 4 overs to spare.
