Doctors lost to Taunton School Staff by 33 runs

Taunton School            150 for 8

Doctors                        117 for 7

Taunton School Staff did the double over Doctors who were outplayed in all departments of the game.  Simon Hogg set the tone with a quickfire 18 which was ended by a fine ball from John Down (1-35) which he edged to diving keeper Dave Rooke.  Tom Hopkins (1-42) struck another blow but then Doctors suffered a hammering from D.Tarr (35) and M.Cook who took the score to 78 after 8 overs.  Doctors’ captain Peter Reed (3-25) stepped into the breach to remove Cook (30) lbw and in harness with an accurate and fast spell from Dave Hollis (2-22) checked the scoring rate.  The School regained the initiative at the end of the innings thanks to aggressive knocks from C.Williams (21), Ben Marsden (19 n.o.) and Luke Waller (16 n.o.).

Alan Dunkley (15) opened for Doctors and looked in very good nick. He would have scored an extra 20 runs through the off side but for vibrant fielding by the visitors, with Tarr leading the way at cover point.   Because of the excellent fielding Doctors fell behind the asking rate and the pressure to accelerate led to a cascade of wickets.  Marsden (2-8), Waller (1-19), Hogg (3-22) and C.Large (1-23) benefited as the batsmen found a variety of ways to get out to mainly straight balls.  Phil Barker (13) and Tom Hopkins (18) played all too brief cameos and Down contributed a lively 11 not out at the end but the only innings of substance came from James Murdoch (35 n.o.).
