Trull Trundlers lost to Doctors by 24 runs

Doctors                       106 for 7

Trull Trundlers             82 for 9

Doctors’ openers struggled to score off the Trull opening attack of paceman W.Payne and spinner Ed Clark.  Graham Fergusson (10) was bowled by a good ball from Payne (1-8) and Tom Millard got an unplayable shooter from R.Clark that only just got above ground level.  Tom Eve’s class was evident as he eased the ball around the ground and smote three sixes and a four. When he retired on 28 not out there was a mini collapse with wickets for R.Clark (2-6) and a suicidal call for a single that left Andrew Paisley well short when the throw from James Mumford arrived at the stumps.  When T.Clark (1-32) bowled the in-form Sam Powell off his pads Doctors were in trouble.  Connor Keohane and Tom Adcock patiently repaired the damage until Adcock (10) was bowled by Michael Milne (1-10).  Keohane (15) was run out going for a second run to Ed Clark at long off but Phil Barker took 12 runs from the final over to ensure that Doctors had something to bowl at.

The start of the Trull innings matched that of Doctors as Sam Powell (4 overs for 4 runs) was impossible to score off and Adcock (2-12) was both tight and penetrative, courtesy of a stumping by Fergusson and a fine catch by Barker at short midwicket off a full-blooded pull.  Mumford was the only batsman to play with any freedom but apart from one fine straight six and 2 twos even he could only score in singles.  Payne (13) gave him support but became a second Fergusson stumping victim off Paisley and thereafter C.Hunt (12) was the only batsman to get into double figures.  Keohane at deep midwicket took a spectacular catch at deep midwicket, just avoiding treading on the rope, to give Paisley (2-18) a second wicket.  Keith Powell scored a direct hit from long off to run out E.Hunt and Eve did the same from third man to dismiss T.Clark.  Constricting spells from Keohane and Barker (2-6) at the death ensured that there was no recovery.  Barker’s sublime bowling season continued with two clean bowled victims and he rubber stamped his man-of-the-match status with a run out off the final ball.
