Wembdon CC beat Doctors by 8 wickets

Doctors                             136 for 5

Wembdon                         137 for 2

Doctors’ winning run of 14 games came to an end with a comprehensive defeat by a young Wembdon side.  A promising start was terminated when David Gwynne Jones was bowled by Gavin Mansfield (1-20) and Graham Fergusson was surprised to be given run out when he thought he had made his ground safely.  Harry Lee made light of this setback and was well supported by Oliver Budd (14) and Richard Budd (18).  Oliver succumbed to a leading edge off P.Curd (1-34) and Richard was lbw to leg spinner Dan Watts (1-13).  When Lee retired after a stylish 35 not out Doctors looked set for a big score but the run rate slowed against good bowling by Watts and Richard Gower.  Tom Adams (15) was bowled by Robert Paull (1-12) and despite a hard hit 16 not out by Ed Johnson the Doctors’ total was 20 runs short of a par total.

Karl Trunks (25) launched Wembdon’s reply with a volley of boundaries until he was lbw to the accurate medium pace of Gwynne Jones (1-16).   Jeremy Budd (1-6) bowled a tidy spell of off spin, took a wicket courtesy of a Fergusson stumping and had three other chances missed off his bowling.  Doctors were to rue these misses as Richard Eclkley’s 33 (retired) laid the perfect foundation for a match winning partnership between Curd (29 n.o.) and Sam Puddy.  Doctors fought hard and took the match to the wire but two big, straight sixes from Puddy (29 n.o.) in the penultimate over allowed Wembdon to ease home comfortably with 3 balls to spare.
